CSU fundraising efforts
The Japan Club at CSU has been folding Paper cranes and giving them out to contributors to Japanese disaster relief efforts. Article here. They are also currently planning T-shirt sales and Bake sales. What a creative way to involve community in fund raising efforts.!

April 16th 9:00-5:00 At University of Denver, in Sturm Hall High-school and University level students from all over Colorado will compete in the Japan Cup, hosted by the DU's Center for World Languages, the JASC and the CJLEA.
Registration starts from 8:00 am

Relief Donations
A major concern of those considering monetary donation to relief efforts has traditionally been concern that those funds may not be distributed properly.
The CJLEA will be collecting donations up to and during the Japan Cup Day.
Unfortunately, donations to CJLEA are not tax deductible.
According to the Consulate General of Japan at Denver,they aree not accpeting any donations for now.
Many municipal offices affected by earthquake/tsunami have set up an account to accept donations.
We would like to ask your opinion about sending CJLEA donation to those places including Sendai City municipal office where Winters-sensei's brother works. This way we can make sure our donation reaches those who are actually in need.
It has come to our attention that while ideas such as folding Senba-Dzuru (1000 paper cranes) and letters are heart felt gestures, sending these types objects may cause more work for people who are already heavily burdened with relief efforts.
So we ask that if your classes are dedicated to creating an artistic piece in support and solidarity, they film their efforts and upload them to Youtube as video letters. The pieces themselves may then be sent at a later date as appropriate.
If you would like to send your support in the form of goods, the following is a great option;
I have also been assured that 100% of the relief funds collected through the following organizations will be donated to relief assistance in the affected areas and to the victims.

Fundraising Events
Avalanche Benefit Game
A parent at Laredo Middle School generously suggested and organized this idea with the assistance of the Pepsi Center. We are selling Avalanche game tickets to raise funds for the Japanese earthquake. The game is Avalanche vs. Calgary Flames that will take place on April 3rd (Sunday) 6:00PM at the Pepsi Center. Seats in upper level center are $30 each (usually $58) and lower level corner/end ones are $50 each (usually $94-102).
If you would like to buy a ticket, please go to the following site and buy it on-line.
Tickets in section 336 (upper) 136 and 138 (lower) are being held for Laredo. The Pepsi Center may announce Laredo Middle school's effort for this fundraiser prior to the game so we would like many people as possible to participate in this. Japan Earthquake Relief Benefit Performance
Working Title (tentative):SAWAGI! A Rucus for Japanese Earthquake Relief
SAWAGI! (English translation: Commotion, Uproar, Revel, Excitement, Hubub, Ado, Merrymaking)
Concept:Giving Effectively —World performers come together through the Human Legacies of Art, Culture, Beauty and Compassion in a celebration of the performing art traditions of Japan and other parts of the world to stress the universal appeal and value of locally created human culture. The whole concert will be scripted, a la the classical Japanese Noh theater. In a Noh play, a mendicant priest sets the scene and by the very act of his journey, brings the audience into the story as a dramatized journey. This traveler/priest becomes a surrogate audience member, an "emcee in character." In SAWAGI!, the†priest is on a pilgrimage to pray at the local temples for natural disaster-stricken souls of the region. The priest meets locals who turn out to be the spirits, in human form, of the cultures and natural beauty of northeastern Japan. In a dream they reappear to "play out their tales." This story line would incorporate dragons and other Kami (spirits), and historic tales and legends, all represented by the world's many musics/musicians.
The aim is to create a separate world for the duration of the concert, and to welcome the audience into that world.
Columbia University's "Asia for Educators" site describes the Noh format thus:
Aside from the main character there are one or sometimes two secondary parts, the waki. Usually they are priests attired in long dark robes. Like the audience, the secondary character is really there only to observe the tragedy/story enacted by the main character. Usually a play opens with the priest or other secondary character's entrance. He describes the scene which he wants the audience to imagine. The scenes are all actual spots in Japan. The main character may then enter disguised as a local person. The local person reveals to the secondary character the significance of the site. He then exits. He returns dressed as his true self with a mask and embroidered robes. From the time of his return to the stage, the secondary character generally remains seated to one side.

No Honorarium: There will be no compensation as we hope to have everything donated (venue, printing, design, web support, advertising, sound and lighting, video shooting and editing, etc., including performances) in order to make the largest contribution to this cause possible. We will try to cover expenses required for your participation (travel, food, etc.)
Goal: $100,000! ($1 for every resident of Boulder!) The plan is to create a very high public media presence, to fill the house, and to also generate a strong donation flow from those who cannot attend the concert, for geographical, temporal or other reasons. We hope to secure Corporate and Organizational donations towards reaching this goal.
Auction:A combined Internet and Day-of-Show Silent Auction is planned.
Cooperation: Consulate General of Japan at Denver, Japan-America Society of Colorado
Direct Contribution: A Non-profit Organization will take contributions/donations and deliver them directly to a needy entity in the stricken area, probably a municipal government body. Current candidates for this role are the Japan-America Society of Colorado and the Boulder Yamagata City Friendship Committee.
